Ms. Belknap's Class Writes a Song

As a part of an effort to make music class more interdisciplinary, a number of classes composed material based on content learned in other subject areas.
Ms. Belknap's 3rd Grade studied Vermont's Abenaki Native American tribe, and wrote a song based on the Abenaki folk tale about the Racoon and the Waterfall. They call this one "Abenaki Stories". We made a recording of this song which uses voice, xylophones, and various percussion instruments. All of Ms. Belknap's students were involved in making this recording.

Harry Belafonte at the Big Picture

Photograph by David Garten

On Monday, January 16th a group of Waitsfield students had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sing for musician and social justice activist, Harry Belafonte at the Big Picture Theatre for Martin Luther King's memorial. Mr. Belafonte was skyped in after the screening of his documentary "Sing Your Song". The students sang a song of the same title from the children's play "A Froggy Day in Lindentown" that was performed earlier this school year. Thanks to Eugene and Claudia for inviting us. It is an experience none of was will soon forget!

Beginner Band!

The beginners have been playing since late September, and are working on "Fawkes the Phoenix", a piece to be played in conjunction with the advanced band this Spring.

Drum Set!

Students learn drum set in addition to the more traditional study of percussion for concert band.

Students receive instrumental lessons one-on-one or in small groups for a variety of instruments. This individual attention ensures their growth as musicians.
